Best Treats For Small Dogs

Do you have a small dog? A poodle, Shi Tzu or even a Chihuahua mix? No matter what type of small dog you have, if you’re a caring pet parent, you want to make sure you’re feeding the best treats for small dogs that you can get.

Dog food and treats can be confusing when it comes to nutrition requirements. We’ll talk more about these in a minute. What’s not confusing is treat size. You wouldn’t give your small dog the same size treat you’d give a Great Dane would you? Small dogs have far less chewing power and therefore require a smaller treat in order to be able to chew on it.

They also have different calorie needs than a big dog. For example, small breed puppies have high metabolism. Veterinarians recommend feeding small breed puppies a calorie dense food three or even four times a day. If they don’t have enough to eat, they can become weak and develop hypoglycemia (drop in blood sugar.)

Even as small breed dogs grow into adulthood, they still require more calories pound for pound than a larger dog due to their higher metabolism. There are many small breed dog foods and treats on the market, yet not all of them are as protein rich as your dog may need.

Here at Pet Snacks, we’re partial to our single ingredient treats made of pure protein. After all, we’ve learned a few things about making healthy dog treats over the years of feeding 1000’s of happy dogs.

One of the things we’ve learned is that feeding your dog a single ingredient treat can meet many of your dog’s nutritional requirements without unnecessary dyes, chemicals or filler ingredients.

Does that sound good?

You probably already know that your dog needs a balanced diet that includes protein, “healthy fats” like omega 3 essential fatty acids along with vitamins and minerals. And, if you’re like a lot of pet parents, you also know omega 3 fatty acids benefit your dog’s skin, coat, eyes, brain, joints and more. It’s a true “nose-to-tail” health food.

However, you may not know that grass-fed kangaroo meat is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. In fact, according to The Heart Foundation, grass fed kangaroo meat merits a “tick” of approval for a healthy heart since it has 74 mg of omega 3’s per 100 mg of raw meat.

It’s packed with essential vitamins and minerals for your pet’s health including those important long-chain omega 3 fatty acids – DHA and EPA.

Our Mini Kangaroo Tendons are perfect for smaller dogs (and tough chewers.) Whether you like to offer your dog a treat to keep him or her busy while you’re away, or just as an extra “treat” because you like to spoil your little dog, yours will love these Roo Tendons.

They can meet your dog’s protein needs because most dogs eat a diet high in carbohydrates without enough protein (commercial dog food is often full of carbohydrates.)

So a protein rich treat helps your pet enjoy a well-balanced diet. These Mini roo tendons can even help clean your small dog’s teeth.

They’re naturally dried without any preservatives so you’ll appreciate them as a “natural” treat for your dog and since they have a small diameter, your small dog can happily chew on them – and get their paws around them.
